Welcome Hurricane - Plylox -Velcro – Hook & loop – Hardware – Rails
A recent headline that caused a stir:
“Great window & door storm protection could it cost less than plywood”.
StormCovers by CPS LLC announced today that by using their patented rails and their “SLATTING” (see slatting and picture below) system, a creative buyer could have window protection better than plywood for less that the cost of plywood…If you plan on using plywood for storm protections Don't– WAIT UNTIL YOU read this STORY first.
OUR STORY: Prior to July of 2009, and because of the high cost of shipping by common carrier/truck, 4ft.x 8ft. sheets of polypropylene and polycarbonate were not cost effective; your only cost effective option was to use ½” plywood in 4’x 8’ sheets as they could be purchased locally.
That’s all CHANGED - we now have access to a large network of polypropylene sources throughout the USA. Odds are in favor of a good source being very near you. And now we can ship Storm Cover’s patented rails and our hardware kits via UPS.
So now you should consider using 3/8” sheets of polypropylene or polycarbonate. By the end of the first season polypropylene will cost less than plywood and still be usable year after year after year.
The one positive of plywood its available hours and days before an impending storm.
Some of the many negatives of Plywood:
. 1. They are not attractive 2. They begin warping as soon as you pick it up from the store. 3. They will continue to warp in storage – (Especially when not securely affixed to the building.) 4. They collect moisture and insects while in storage 5. They make a building look like it has been vacated. (Telling the “bad guys” this place is easy pickings.) 6. Plywood does NOT allow light to shine through. (In storms electricity is likely to be out for hours and days) 7. They are heavy and difficult to put in place in the wind. 8. And the list goes on and on
The one negative of Poly materials is that they will not be as available as plywood if a storm is eminent. So it’s wise to plan ahead.
Some positive examples of POLYPROPYLENE: 1. They are attractive. especially with our rails installed 2. More durable and offer much better protection than plywood. 3. They let light in 4. They are light weight – easier to install in the wind than plywood 5. Warping not a problem 6. Last for years and years. 7. Attractive – So attractive they can even be installed days before a storm arrives and taken down days after the storm. REMEMBER LIGHT WILL PASS THROUGH.
